Soccer is here!

Fall 2023, Carolina Christian College is proud to introduce collegiate soccer as part of our athletic program. This program will be a welcomed addition to our growing athletic department, including men’s and women’s basketball and football coming in 2024. We are now taking applications for the fall start. All interested parties should contact our coach matt.kelly@carolina.edu.

Coach Matt Kelly has coached soccer for the last 9 years. Coach Kelly began with Carolina University from 2014-2021 as the assistant men’s coach. Coach Kelly helped to build their program from his insight as a player and leader. Since 2021 Coach Kelly has been the head boys soccer coach at Carter G Woodson and the head mens club soccer coach at High Point University. Coach Kelly coached 5 All Conference players at Carter G Woodson and finished as runner up’s in the state finals in 2022.

Coach Kelly’s tenacity and commitment was built at his Alma Matter, Southern Wesleyan University. Coach Kelly was a walk on for their soccer team so he knows the work ethic that’s needed to be a success and he has earned a bachelor degree in Sports Management so he knows how that work ethic pays off, but more importanty he knows that it’s only the strenght given from God that builds the work ethic of any person.

Coach Kelly resides in Thomasville, NC with his wife Angela and their three boys, Samuel, Elijah, and Jonathan, and one soon to be daughter Hannah.

We welcome coach Kelly as part of the CCC family and are excited with the future.

NCCAA Announces Carolina Christian College as New Member for 2023-24

Greenville, SC (5/26/23) – The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) is pleased to announce and welcome its newest members for the 2023-24 academic year: Carolina Christian College and Wayland Baptist University. Justice College, Kuyper College, and Westmont College were previously announced as new members.

NCCAA Executive Director Dan Wood said, “We continue to see a mix of new members utilizing intercollegiate athletics to grow along with past members reconnecting. While each institution is developing at its own pace and for its own unique purposes, all new members are intentionally Christ-centered partners with the NCCAA in keeping Christ at the center of intercollegiate athletics.”

Carolina Christian College, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will be entering as a Division II member in the South Region. The Centurions will participate in the following NCCAA sports: Men’s & Women’s Basketball, and Men’s Soccer.

CCC Hires New Athletic Director

Maurice Crocker

Maurice Crocker, the former owner of SHOWTIME PHYSIQUE Health and Wellness Studio, LLC and a Personal Trainer for 19 years in the Triad area. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, with a degree in English-Literature and Journalism. Upon graduation, his professional career began working as journalist for a New York Times newspaper in Thibodaux, La. After several years as a journalist, Maurice ventured into corporate America and began working for American Express Card Services. Utilizing his journalistic skills and talents, worked as an Instructional Designer. Writing and developing training manuals as well as policy and procedures. Maurice decided to follow his passion for health and fitness and started SHOWTIME PHYSIQUE Health and Wellness Studio to help other achieve their health and fitness goals. He is certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Maurice is also a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, with the Cancer Exercise Training Institute. Other certifications include Functional Aging Exercise Instructor, from the Functional Aging Institute. Maurice has numerous years of experience coaching middle and high school athletics. He is currently the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, NC. He also serves as an assistant coach for the varsity baseball team, which is currently ranked 16th in the nation.

Maurice is not a stranger to Carolina Christian College. He served as a board member for seven years. Maurice has been married for 27 years to his college sweetheart Kimberly Jessup Crocker. They have two sons Myles (19) and Mason (11). In addition to being a leader and developer of athletes, he is also a servant and dedicated to serving his community through several organizations. Maurice is a member of Salem Lodge #139, PHA and a member or Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. Maurice is a welcome addition to the team, and we have high hopes the he will take our athletic program to the next level.

2024 Carolina Christian College Graduates

Carolina Christian College held its 74th graduation ceremony at Reynolda Church in Winston-Salem, NC at 1pm. The event was inspirational and historic for CCC. Approaching its 80th year in existence, CCC graduated 11 students in a spirit filled ceremony. Dr. James Wiles of Elon First Baptist Church was the commencement speaker. The message for this occasion came from Phil. 1:6 and was entitled “God believes in you.” Carolina Christian College, led by the 5th president Dr. LaTanya Tyson, continues to prepare real people for real ministry in a real world. We offer associates, bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees and is proud to present the following graduates:

2024 Donald R. Young Hope Award Winner

In 2003 President Donald R. Young instituted the Hope award for graduates that inspire hope thr ough trial and victory. The award was posthumously named after Dr. Young’s passing, and has been awarded to those students that overcame the odds of life to complete their education, thereby giving hope to others that see education as out of their reach. This year’s Carolina Christian College’s Donald R. Young Hope award winner was Camry Barbour. Camry affectional known and “Cam” serves as team leader for the mens basketball team, a stellar student, and the spiritual bright spot in the athletic program. When Cam first enrolled, his only goal was to finish his degree.

Since that time, his goals have grown with his maturity. He now works as a manger at a local sneaker store, and has aspirations for more. He says, “My plans are to open my own training facility for athletes. I will be training athletes who are serious about their future in the sport of basketball. Also, I want to continue my education in business finance to have a career as a mortgage loan officer.”

Cam is an active member of United Metropolitain Baptist Church where he is beginning to thrive in leadership positions in the church. We are proud of Cam and all of our graduates. We pray that all of our graduates meet every goal they aspire to reach, and we as an institution will continue to prepare real people for real ministry in a real world.

The 2024-25 Academic Year Has Begun!

On Saturdays August 10, 2024 Carolina Christian College welcomed students to the new student orientation for the 24-25 academic year. CCC is proud to welcome a new freshman class of scholars and athletes. With our new addition of women’s soccer along with our current program of men’s and women’s basketball we will be welcoming students from all walks of life to join the CCC family. Dean of Undergraduate studies Nneka Forsman led the students through the orientation process and states, “This is always exciting to me. It is a unique pleasure and opportunity to meet new students and be blessed to make an impact on their life.”

It’s an historic day at CCC. The pandemic left many schools struggling to adjust and maintain enrollment. Many schools did not survive the pandemic, but CCC was favored to survive and rebound. Beginning with a stellar athletic program, CCC was forced to be innovative to attract students and expand our offerings. Major successes was the 21 Century Leadership Program and the Certified Spiritual Life Coaching Program that create an online enrollment that made up for the lack of in-person classes. For the 24-25 year, CCC is happy to announce its biggest incoming class since the pandemic. With students from all over the country and serval different foreign countries, CCC is positioning itself to increase enrollment exponentially.

Dr. Valerie Hollingsworth Baker

Dr. Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, born in Brooklyn, New York, Valerie Hollingsworth Baker served as the 25th International Centennial Grand Basileus of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated from July 2018 – July 2022.

Valerie was honored by the United Negro College Fund as a “Maya Angelou Women Who Lead” Honoree in September 2020 and commissioned by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel in September 2022. She currently serves as the Vice President of Hancock T&T Block Association and is a member of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women.

Dr. Hollingsworth Baker currently serves on the Chairman of the Zeta National Education Foundation Board. Valerie has recently launched her own business entitled “M.C. Hollingsworth Unlimited” an LLC specializing in Global Women Empowerment, Personal Coaching, Event Sourcing, and creating fundraising strategies/opportunities for non-profit organizations/foundations. Conferred Honorary Doctor of Ministry from Carolina Christian College; May 2023. Currently holds the position of Chairman of the Zeta National Educational Foundation as of August 2023 As the International Centennial President, Valerie and the Centennial Chair were responsible for the organization’s weeklong historic Centennial celebration, which took place January 12-18, 2020.

Dr. Adrienne B. Johnson

Dr. Adrienne Booth Johnson is an internationally respected business strategist and motivational speaker. She has expertise and experience in marketing, management, communications and business development. She is a Coca-Cola Company marketing executive who retired after 25 years of service. She founded Infinity Global Connections, LLC, (“IGC”) which empowers individuals, companies and organizations to achieve their greatest potential.

Dr. Johnson founded and successfully launched the Wo Ye Bra pilot program in Greater Accra, Ghana, West Africa in 2017. It has a dual-purpose , to train women to become entrepreneurs who make and sell reusable sanitary pads, and to keep girls in school during their menstrual cycle. She provides all the resources and training for impoverished women to learn the trade of sewing. She provides each participant with a free sewing machine, fabric, supplies, and micro-funding, as well as marketing, sales training and financial education.

Attorney Joe Johnson

Attorney Joe Johnson has practiced law in Michigan and North Carolina since 1991. He has practiced in Law Firms, Public Interest Law, Private Practice, and in Corporate Law, as a Litigation Counsel for The Coca-Cola Company. He specializes in the areas of Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Worker’s Compensation, Social Security, Intellectual Property, Litigation, Licensing, Insolvency and Non-profit Board Governance.

Attorney Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan where he was co-captain of the basketball team. He earned his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where he was a Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King scholar.

Coach James Ledbetter III has over a decade of coaching experience, including five years with the Stars AAU program under Aaron Greer and five years with Phoenix Academy under Delaney Rudd, where he was part of a program that captured two AA State Championships. He also served as the Junior Varsity Coach at Carolina Christian College during the 2019–2020 season.
