Degree Programs
A.C.E.
The Adult Collegiate Entrance program is our traditional day program for those individuals that prefer a more traditional format. A.C.E. offers a boardroom-style classroom setting with a collaborative/interactive learning environment. Students will learn from a diverse pool of professors and upon completion of curriculum requirements will have the opportunity to obtain an Associates or Bachelor of Arts in Ministry with a choice of minors including Pastoral Ministry, Christian Education, and Urban Ministry.
A.C.T.
Accelerated Christian Training Program, is our non-traditional program designed to provide busy working adults with an opportunity to complete a certified certificate program. In this program students are able to obtain a certificate in a year, which would prepare them to uplift their local church. Students have an opportunity to obtain a certificate diploma in Leadership, Pastoral Ministry, Christian Education, and Urban Ministry.
A.S.A.P.
The Accelerated Student Achievement Program is a non-traditional accelerated program designed to provide busy working adults with an opportunity to obtain a college degree. The student has a choice to earn an Associate of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In this accelerated format, adult students attend class one night a week on a year-round basis, which provides the opportunity to obtain a degree in about two to four years. This program is designed to bring a new level of leadership effectiveness and ministry skills to those desiring to make a difference in their church and world. Some of the distinctive features include:
- Classes meet one night a week.
- Classes meet from 6 to 10pm.
- Classes meet on the same night for entire program.
- Students complete one course at a time and a course is completed in 5 weeks. Therefore, in five weeks 3 semester hours are earned.
- Each student has one group of adults to interact with. Being with same group enables open discussion and the group dynamic provides encouragement to excel.
A.M.P.
The Accelerated Master’s degree Program or A.M.P is the newest program at Carolina Christian College. This program offers a graduate level Master’s degree in Religious Education. Students that participate in this program will be on an accelerated pace attending class one night a week and completing one class at a time in six weeks.
Bachelor of Arts in Ministry (A.C.E./A.S.A.P.)
Each program must include four elements:
- A major of not less than 33 semester hours in Biblical Studies.
- A basic core in the arts and sciences of not less than 36 hours, which must include fine arts, mathematics, and the social sciences.
- Nine hours in Ministry courses.
- Twenty-two hours in a selected minor.
Christian Education Minor
The student, upon completion of this minor, will have the basic skills and knowledge necessary for entry level work in a variety of ministries (educational missionary, minister of education, curriculum writer, Christian day school teacher, etc.), and the skills and information necessary to build upon these skills as he/she develops his/her ministry.
This includes that the graduating student shall:
- Be able to write a lesson plan including operationally stated objectives, several ways of organizing material, classroom procedures, and techniques of evaluation.
- Have at his/her disposal a group of teaching techniques for use in classroom instruction.
- Have a knowledge of the materials available for use in Christian Education, and skill in evaluating and adapting them to a variety of teaching situations.
- Have a knowledge of the processes involved in human learning at a beginning professional level.
- Have a basic understanding of human development from pre-birth to death.
- Have a knowledge of, and basic skills in, administration for a variety of church related situations.
- Have demonstrated skills in Christian education.
- Be prepared to communicate the skills and information he/she has learned to the lay-workers in the church.
Pastoral Ministries Minor:
The specific goals of this program, beyond the goals of the major, are to train ministers and associate ministers for service in the church.
This includes that the graduating student shall:
- Have basic knowledge of church music as an aid to leadership in worship.
- Have familiarity with programs, methods, and materials for ministry to youth.
- Be competent user of the computer as a tool to church work.
- Have a good grasp of the curriculum and other materials available for the educational work of the church.
- Be aware of and prepared to deal with complicated social issues in American society.
Urban Ministries Minor
The student, upon completion of this program, will be equipped for entry level work in urban ministries and have the skills and information to build on his/her studies here as he/she develops as an urban servant of Christ.
This includes that the graduating student shall:
- Have knowledge of social structures and how they interact, as well as how these relate to the work of the church and its program.
- Have knowledge of the special problems in an urban environment and how they relate to church work.
- Have knowledge of the structures, practices, and purposes of the various social agencies and how these relate to the work of the church.
- Have knowledge of the interaction of social and psychological forces in the lives of people and how this relates to the work of the church.
- Have knowledge of the special cultural aspects of the city and how these relate to church work.
- Have knowledge of the structures, practice, and purposes of the politics of the city and how these relate to church work.
- Have knowledge and appreciation of the problems and opportunities offered by the social problems likely to be confronted in the city, and understand the role and function of the church in dealing with them, as well as how they affect the work of the church.
Leadership Minor
The specific purpose of this program is to equip the student to enter their workplace or local church with the tools to be an effective leader.
This includes that the graduating student shall:
- Have knowledge of different types of leadership styles and how to move between them in situations.
- Be familiar with basic counseling concepts, methods and practices.
- Be a competent user of the computer as a tool to church work.
- Have knowledge of the social impact in the religious world and the impact of religion in the secular world.
- Be able to establish a religious deity within a setting outside of the religious world.
Master’s of Religious Education (A.M.P)
Purpose of Program
The Master of Religious Education (MRE) is a professional degree for those who want to prepare for service in the church as a Director of Christian Education, Director of Program Ministries, Director of Youth or Children’s Ministry, and other ministries related to religious education. It also serves others who wish to strengthen their skills and knowledge in religious education through the study of major sources of biblical, theological, historical, ethical, and cultural studies and the integration of those studies into the ministry of education.
Program Description
The Master of Religious Education (MRE) is offered with two specializations: Pastoral Care and Christian Education. Both tracks require a total of fifty-seven (57) semester hours of graduate study as described in Program Requirements below.
The program will be taught in a non-traditional instruction format. Instead of the traditional 50-minute lecture for 3 days a week and 16 weeks in the semester, the students will meet for 4 hours a week for 6 weeks. Outside work will focus on individual learning for an estimated 20 hours a week.
Program Learning Outcomes
The educational goals of the
Pastoral Care track of the MRE program:
- The learner will analyze the history, teachings, and the theoretical concepts pertaining to the teachings of the Old Testament and New Testament.
- The learner will be able to plan, create, and/or design effective approaches to communication of the gospel through worship, evangelism, education, and ministry within the church.
- The learner will be able to compare and contrast the teachings and beliefs of the non-Christian to the Christian in America.
- The learner will gain training while applying theory, concepts, and practical applications to resolve problems related to ministry.
- The learner will apply counseling theories to resolve the sociological and psychological needs in ministry.
The educational goals of the Christian Education track of the MRE program:
- The learner will analyze the history, teachings, and the theoretical concepts pertaining to the teachings of the Old Testament and New Testament.
- The learner will be able to plan, create, and/or design effective approaches to communication of the gospel through worship, evangelism, education, and ministry within the church.
- The learner will interpret scripture relevant to the use of gifts in Christian education.
- The learner will develop curriculum and programs to support the educational needs of children and adults in ministry.
- The student will compose a strategic plan to enhance the philosophical teaching of the Christian educator.
Program Admissions Requirements
Students are required to submit the following:
- Evidence of an earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- A minimum undergraduate grade of “B” average. (Upper Level Courses).
- A statement of faith
- Proof of active ministry involvement at a local church
- A completed application for admission
